We collect and store this data solely to provide the extension's functionality:
- Functionality: To provide the core features of the extension, such as remembering your speed presets, auto-skip preferences, and per-site settings
- User Experience: To sync your preferences across devices and maintain your settings between browser sessions
- Statistics: To provide you with insights about your usage (e.g., time saved, content skipped)
- Onboarding: To show or hide the initial tutorial based on whether you're a new user

3.1 Chrome Storage Sync
Settings and statistics are stored using Chrome Storage Sync, which means:
- Data is synchronized across all devices where you are signed into Chrome with the same Google account
- Data is stored in Google's cloud infrastructure
- Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Google
- You can access and manage this data through Chrome's sync settings
3.2 Chrome Storage Local
Onboarding information is stored using Chrome Storage Local, which means:
- Data is stored only on your local device
- Data is not synchronized across devices
- Data remains on your device unless you uninstall the extension or clear browser data
3.3 No External Servers
SkipIt does not use any external servers or third-party services. All data processing happens locally in your browser. We do not transmit any data to our own servers or any third parties.
4. Data Sharing with Third Parties
We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any third parties.
The only external party involved is Google, through Chrome's built-in sync feature:
- Google Chrome Sync: Data stored in Chrome Storage Sync is subject to Google's privacy policies and infrastructure. This is necessary for the sync functionality to work across your devices.
We do not:
- Use analytics or tracking services
- Collect browsing history or website content
- Share data with advertisers or marketing companies
- Transfer data to our own servers
- Process any payment information
- Collect any personally identifiable information
5. Your Rights and Control
You have full control over your data:
- View Your Data: You can view all stored settings and statistics in the extension's options page
- Reset Statistics: You can reset your usage statistics at any time from the options page
- Reset All Settings: You can reset all settings to default values from the options page
- Delete All Data: Uninstalling the extension will remove all locally stored data. Chrome Storage Sync data can be managed through Chrome's sync settings
- Disable Sync: You can disable Chrome sync for extensions in Chrome's settings if you don't want your data synchronized across devices
6. Data Security
We take data security seriously. All data stored in Chrome Storage Sync is encrypted by Google. Local storage data is protected by Chrome's security model. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Children's Privacy
Our extension is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child, please contact us immediately.
